Today, I am going to use both images to tell about what's been happening with us.
Take your mind now to the scene from the movie "Chariots of Fire" where you see the contending Olympians running along the beach. You will notice "Eric Liddell", a devout Scottish Christian, who runs for the glory of God and "Harold Abrahams", an English Jew, who runs to overcome prejudice. Now add to this group of courageous men, my husband, a devout Christian, a new man with a new purpose, striving to run a race he's never run before. He's been in training for six glorious months. He's tired and weary yet determined to stay in the race. His courage is astounding, his resolve unquenchable. What is this race? Well, it's not the Olympics but I'm sure it must feel like to him some days! He has taken on the challenge of reversing our roles in marriage after 20 years of chaos. He is now the Head of Household (or HOH). He must lead now, both spiritually and physically. We have three nearly grown daughters who I am certain appreciate the fact that they never had to survive a broken home - something that was threatened in their earshot all too often - but also have never seen their parents unified in one goal and purpose. I describe what they surely are going through now as "culture shock". My husband has come so far in so many ways. He has grown in strength, stature and fortitude. As I made the concerted effort to step aside and let my husband take the lead in our home, I submitted my heart willingly to allow him to become the man of God he was created to be. There is still much training to complete and many more miles to tread, but the changes we both have seen thus far serve as a huge encouragement. The changes can be seen as the crowd standing on the side lines cheering us on, with flags and pennants waving, shouting "Go, Go, Go!!!". This is my husband's race. This is his time to focus on the prize. I’m excited to see his new drive but I’m challenged in experiencing the discipline and training in my new role of honor, respect and obedience. We are both now looking beyond the finish line and looking forward to the awesome things to come.
Now, the image of the blazing butt! This is MY story in the past week. Almost EVERY night I’m OTK, submitting to the training of my husband. We are still working on the language thing as I posted earlier and I’m sure feeling the affects of some hard core spankings of late. My husband seems to be figuring things out with his paddle. I don’t know if it’s the frequency of paddlings lately or if his skill has improved … maybe it’s a combination of both things… but my butt has been lit ON FIRE lately! I scarcely could stay still with these past few sessions and I’ve found it awfully hard to focus my thoughts on WHY I’m OTK and WHAT I need to do to avoid it next time. My husband, in his wisdom, has picked up on where I’m at and has decided to continue his “work” and training until he’s fully satisfied that the “job” is done. The last session on Friday night actually brought me to true repentant tears … something that rarely happens, if at all. I guess we will see in the next few days how things go before I can really decide what’s been happening … maybe find out for sure why these spankings seem to be really hurting like never before … he says it could be that I’m coming to a place of less resistance to the discipline and so can feel it more than before … could be … or perhaps it’s just because this language thing is a huge issue that is requiring LOTS of attention and I’m just good and sore from spanking to spanking! Like I said, “Chariots of Fire!”

Hope the fire goes to a low flame soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's out Sunnygirl! Thanks!
DeleteNeat analogy Abby. May the burning be very quickly changed to cool and comfy. You can do it...I'm guessing you are already!
ReplyDeleteThree whole days now! Woo Hoo!
DeleteChariots of Fire, how appropriate! It's been almost 6 months for us now too. It's interesting to look back at where we were, look at where we are now, and look ahead to where we hope to be. I hope you get the language thing sorted out soon! If not, well, there's always the opportunity to roast some marshmallows or something I guess. lol
ReplyDeleteThat's HILARIOUS Grace! Thanks for the laugh! Actually, the language thing is getting better and better! I can't believe it myself!
